The partnership that's worth it!
In partnership with Bottl and the Syndicat Général des Vignerons de la Champagne, we cavistes, let's highlight the champagnes of winemakers! The project focuses on the valorisation of Champagne wines and is mainly a highlight of the various terroirs that gives each champagne a singular style. The collective banner "Champagne de Vignerons" brings together 4000 winemakers and co-operatives of Champagne, it was created in 2001 by the Union, and it is the only collective banner worn by a wine union.
In this perspective, they highlight the characters of champagnes by these terroirs. They are divided into three characters:
- Vif – dominant freshness
- Fruity – sweetness of the fruit and rich aromas
- Intense – the added value of aging in cellars felt in tasting

It is a promotion that highlights the know-how of the definition of terroir: these characters try to translate or express in a few words how we could identify a champagne by its origin, its grape variety, its climate and the know-how of the producer.
A passage in the history of the Champagne vineyard.
The Champagne vineyard consists of four regions: the Reims Mountain, the Marne Valley, the Côte des Blancs and the Côte des Bars. On these terroirs, there are three main varieties: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier which can also be completed by Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Arbane and Petit Meslier. Each grape variety brings a different character to the wines, the aromatic profile of the champagne develops over time and its ageing brings to the wines an aromatic intensity that evolves regularly.
It's the wine of kings!
The renown of the city of Reims was born with the baptism of Clovis at Notre Dame de Reims Cathedral in 496, the future King of the Franks. This moment marks the cathedral of Reims, which eventually becomes the reference place that will crown the lineage of the kings of France. Who says sacristy says banquet and says wine, at that time Champagne wine was quiet wine – without bubble – which became the wine of the sacres and then the Wine of the Kings.
As you were able to read about our article: https://adegas-terroirs.com/fr/blog/en-prise-de-mousse-pop-b9.html you already know a little about creating the first bubble in the world.

However, the Champagne method was created by Dom Pérignon in 1668 and was designed to bring more complexity and identity to wines made in Champagne. How to assemble the wines and age them in different ways, year after year, writes and defines the quality of each Champagne terroir. This method evolves and it is thanks to it that the production of white wines with grapes with black skin is born.
In the development of the consumption and production of Champagne wines, the bishops were often responsible for the wineries, they were the ones who processed and worked grapes, from vine to glass. The church owned the land and the wines were part of the consecrations of the kings, which allowed the Champagne terroir to gain fame for sparkling wines. This sovereign responsibility eventually extended the production of vines throughout the Champagne region, which explains today the formation of these wine regions.

The United States and the United Kingdom remain the two countries that consume the most Champagne in the world.
